Poets and writers use botanical subjects as symbols and metaphors to express emotion or ideas. Life and death, the beauty and ugliness in the world and so often, love. Plants are transient and can help portray the passage of time as they grow, reproduce and decay. For over a decade I have been fascinated by the potential of botanical forms to tell a story in a photograph. Some, such as poppies, literally shout at you to see their narrative but others need coaxing to tell a tale. In this series of 16 photographs I have selected images that depict times in a woman’s life; rites of passage, emotions, challenges, successes and ultimately aging.
